LAGG
The LAGG Distillery is located at the southern tip of Arran, in the heart of the island's agricultural countryside. It is the only distillery on a Scottish island located south of the Highland boundary line. The Lochranza Single Malt Distillery on Arran, in contrast, is located above this line.
The first distillation has been carried out in the newly built LAGG distillery since 2019 with the aim of producing heavily peated, modern and characterful single malt Scotch whiskies.
For the first batch of bottlings, Concerto barley malt and water from the brewery's own borehole were used. The malt is peated to 50 ppm during kilning. It is then crushed and mixed in the mash tun at Lagg to produce a cloudy wort that delivers an oily, robust flavor.
The selected yeast and fermentation time allow us to create the full-bodied flavor we strive for during distillation. We then distill twice in our handcrafted copper pot stills at almost twice the speed of our sister distillery, Lochranza.
